Countdown to Halloween Spooky Books - Escape of the Living Dead

When I was still in the womb, Night of the Living Dead was released and began a sub genre that has never been more popular than it is today. We all know what George Romero has done with his five sequels, but co-creator John A. Russo was not part of any of those films. He did a sequel of his own with The Return of the Living Dead novel. The movie that was made used his title and nothing else and was more a satire of the series (and a very good one at that).

Russo's Escape from the Living Dead takes place 3 years after the original movie and is anything but funny. The story has the same desperate desolation as the original work. Oh, and it's as violent and gory as a Lucio Fulci film. If you are a fan of the Romero movies, I suggest checking out this story. I think it contains something his later films lacked. Perhaps if these two creators got together again, we could get another grand zombie film!

And for anyone in the Nashville area, you're in for a treat! John A. Russo will be a guest at the Nashville Comic and Horror Festival this weekend! I'll be there too, so after you meet Russo and ask him about the upcoming movie plans for Escape from the Living Dead, come by the ESO table and say "Howdy!"
